The team at O'Neill & Brennan had a very busy second week during their time at Unlocking Construction.
Our head of social value, Sasha Simmonds, set off early to visit HMP Hindley in Wigan where Chris Nuttall put on an amazing event. Everyone was welcomed with a goodie bag, and a very tasty “Builders Breakie” was put on by the team at Wates Group. This was followed with a chat by a very positive Governor & Head of Reducing Reoffending. Next up was a tour of the prison workshops, and finally a speed dating style meet for some men that were due for release to finish the day off.

Josie Dowling attended a Construction Job Fair at HMP Sudbury and had the pleasure of meeting perspective candidates for both ROTL & release.

HMP Ford was visited by Director Ciaran Hoey, who stepped in like a trooper, accompanied by Martine Whale-Corbett  from Willmott Dixon where they were taken for a tour of Ford and their incredible Construction academies. They then were put through their paces as they gave a talk to a room of 44 men, while offering one to one chats for those who wanted them.

Josie Dowling made her way down to HMP Erlstoke with Abbey Temlett, who helps run our partnership training programme #ConstructACareer. Abbey gave a very informative talk to serving offenders about all things involved with getting CSCS cards!

HMP Liverpool was visited on a freezing cold day but Lea Sadledein, Prison Employment Lead, managed to produce a great turn out from companies such as ISG & Laing O'Rourke. The catering team put on an incredible spread, including some very tasty cupcakes. The day involved a tour of the academies where the men can gain a variety of City & Guild’s qualifications and a little speed interview with the men that will soon be going home.

All in all, we had a very busy but very successful 2 weeks.

Thank you to New Futures Network for allowing the team along for the journey! It was a pleasure working with Emma Wagstaff to pull these crazy two weeks together, here’s to the next events!
