A problem that is certainly prevalent in the Construction industry is a lack of local people employed on projects and a shortage of new people entering the industry to curtail the skilled and unskilled labour shortage. This was particularly prevalent recently, with the fantastic news that Amy Johnson, whom O'Neill & Brennan spoke to and registered last Friday at the end of the Birmingham City Council/Willmott Dixon Construction Gateway course, was placed into a new job at ISG's Wolverhampton University job, where she started yesterday.
She was on site at 6:45am ready for a 7:30am start and texted Birmingham Regional Manager Chloe Saffhill to say that she really enjoyed it, and was looking forward to going in again. Amy has certainly made a good first impression, which didn't go unoticed by Project Manager on the site, Mick Byrne, "We were delighted to offer Amy her first start on site with ISG. She was here 45 minutes before she was due to commence work. With that positive attitude towards her first day of work with us, she is guaranteed to have a successful career in construction."
This viewpoint was also shared by O'Neill & Brennan's Craig Gillies, who interviewed Amy on Friday last week and said "We interviewed Amy on Friday last week, where she successfully completed a training course with Willmott Dixon. A stand out candidate, we're delighted to get her a first job in a short space of time."
