O’Neill & Brennan UK hosted a work placement candidate who joined us through Mustard Tree on a John Sisk & Son project in Manchester. The placement was initially scheduled for four to six weeks and commenced on Monday 26th May, with the candidate supporting the team in a Logistics Coordinator role.
Following an initial four-week review, we were extremely pleased with the candidate’s performance. She consistently demonstrated a positive and helpful attitude, a strong work ethic, and a clear eagerness to learn. As a result, we made the decision to extend the placement by a further twelve weeks. In total, the candidate spent just over four months with us (approximately sixteen weeks).
Prior to joining O'Neill & Brennan Logistics, the candidate had completed degree-level studies in Health & Safety in her home country and expressed a strong desire to pursue a career in this field. To support her professional development, we subsidised the cost of her CSCS test and CSCS card. We also spent time mentoring her, assisting with exam preparation through study support and practical, site-based health and safety scenarios. Additionally, we also subsidised the candidate’s travel costs throughout the placement.
During her time with us, the candidate assisted with a wide range of logistics and health and safety-related responsibilities, including:
✅Overseeing and approving delivery bookings
✅Ensuring health and safety documentation was complete and uploaded to SharePoint
✅ Maintaining records of PPE issued to operatives
✅ Supporting the Logistics Manager with daily briefings, including learning how to prepare daily briefings and point of work risk assessments.
✅ Printing weekly test and inspection documentation
✅ Ordering PPE and office supplies
✅ Ordering diesel for telehandlers and other plant on site
✅ Attending daily coordination meetings
✅ Attending monthly client health and safety committee meetings
✅ Ensuring new operatives completed induction records and obtaining copies of required documentation.
✅ Assisting the Logistics Manager with site tours for new work placement candidates.
