With the World Cup set to kick off in less than 3 months’ time and domestic competitions starting to draw to a close, attention will quickly switch to football’s flagship competition that promises to be full of drama, upsets and excitement. England, without a major tournament win since 1966, will continue their quest to end over 50 years of hurt and will be the sole representative on this occasion from the British Isles, with Scotland, Wales, The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland all failing to qualify.

With the likes of Messi and Ronaldo on the wrong side of 30, this tournament perhaps offers their last chance to get their hands on the ultimate prize in football, and possibly the final time we’ll see them at their imperial best on the biggest stage. Brazil will be looking to avenge their miserable 7-1 semi-final exit in their homeland four years ago and look far stronger this time around. Other notable mentions include France, who have an abundance of young talent at their disposal; Germany, reigning champions of course, who look very strong again this time around and finally Spain, who will undoubtedly fair better than their limp group exit last time out.
