Last Friday saw the completion of another Construct a Career course in partnership with Wates. The course for unemployed residents in Bexley and surrounding areas was held in Woolwich, and combined classroom learning, on site experience, and interview practice, to fully prepare each candidate for a career in construction.

The course began on 2nd March and as part of their learning, participants spent time visiting two of Wates Residential sites in nearby Erith; West Street and Park East. The second week of the course involved the participants taking part in mock interviews to help improve their confidence, personal and professional skills and CV writing and interview technique.

On the final day of the course, each participant was presented with a completion certificate from Wates Residential Operations Director, Glen Roberts and O’Neill & Brennan Commercial Operations Manager, Brendan Smith.

All 32 participants of this Construct a Career course have now successfully achieved their CITB and One Day Health & Safety tests, and now are ready to be placed into work by O’Neill & Brennan to put their newly acquired skills into action.

This Woolwich course highlights Wates’s continuous involvement with Construct a Career, following a very successfulpilot course in January which took place in Brent.

If anyone would like to know more about how Construct a Career could work for your projects, (CSR targets, Section 106 obligations and local labour), we'd welcome a discussion on it. Contact Brendan Smith on 07464 546 982 or email b.smith@oandb.co.uk
