Quantity Surveyor -  Civil Engineering Major Projects

Station upgrade & associated civils works

Location: South West (Perm)

A Tier 1 Civil Engineering Main Contractor is currently seeking a QS to join their South West based team to work on a large Station Redevelopment project.

As part of the ongoing GWR improvement commitment to passengers a large Station redevelopment project has recently been awarded to the Contractor to support increased passenger capacity and associated rolling stock to the south-west. The Rail operating company have identified a need to increase the operational capacity of their maintenance facility. My client has been awarded the construct contract for the works from site clearance, new Depot and all new and modified Permanent Way including switches, crossings, turntables in shed and buffers. As a result, they are looking to appoint a Senior Commercial Manager to oversee the operation.

You will be responsible for overseeing a Commercial team ensuring works are delivered within the financial and commercial targets set.


Responsibilities:

  • To take responsibility for the commercial function across a Sector
  • Plan and agree a commercial strategy with the Managing Director
  • Deliver the commercial promise in line with the agreed forecasts
  • To verify, collate and present the sector results
  • To lead the resolution of upstream and downstream commercial challenges
  • To maintain professional and legal standards and protect the company’s position
  • To develop and coach the commercial family
  • Value management for project
  • Prepare interim and final account and ensure payment
  • Understanding of true value to end of reporting period and comparison with actual cost expended
  • Understanding of forecast final value at completion
  • Change management for project

 

 We’re looking for:

  • BSc or HND in Quantity Surveying or other equivalent construction related subject
  • Preferably qualified to ICES or RICS accreditation
  • Experienced Contractor QS
  • MRICS or equivalent qualification
  • Experience of NEC3 and other UK standard forms of contract
  • Strong presentation and negotiation skills
  • Strong people skills and team player.
  • Relevant CSCS Card
