Our client is a leading Irish construction company. Their primary activity is undertaking large, complex projects in commercial, retail, tourism, pharmaceutical, high-tech and institutional buildings, refurbishment and civil engineering works. They are now seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager in Dublin. The Purchasing Manager is responsible for the co-ordination and management of purchasing activities in the Dublin area. The main objective of the role is to ensure effective purchasing and delivery of goods and services. The successful candidate will have a strong technical understanding of the construction industry, superior negotiation skills and an ability to communicate across a wide band of personnel in the industry.

Primary Responsibilities as Purchasing Manager:

  • Establish key strategic supplier agreements across a wide range of products and services.
  • Guide the Estimating Department on best market value at project tender stage.
  • At construction stage establish project requirements in terms of quantity, schedule & quality of all materials
  • Issue requests for prices with suppliers as well as follow up on price requisitions as requested
  • Prepare quotation analysis and settle these with the site team.
  • Source, select and negotiate the best purchase package in terms of quality, price, terms, deliveries and services with suppliers.
  • Prepare and process purchase orders and documents in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Experience in planning, organising, prioritising and co-ordinating work in a changing environment.
  • Responsible for mentoring and training an assistant purchaser

Skills/Qualification:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in construction industry in a similar role
  • Relevant Third level qualification
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Good knowledge of supply of construction materials
  • Work to achieve cost savings & challenge price increases
  • Manage procurement activities for several sites
  • Strong PC skills and good working knowledge of Microsoft suite
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work on their own and also as part of a team
  • Ability to work well under pressure and within a strict deadline environment
