Geo Technical Engineer

Bristol, UK

£14.50 - £17.00 per hour

Contract

We are seeking Freelance / Contract Geotechnical Engineer(s) to join an award winning geotechnical company as part of the ground investigation team, to provide engineering support throughout the UK within a team delivering exceptional quality for customers in a safe working environment.

Your key activities will include:

  • Reviewing risk assessment based activity plans.
  • Checking specification, design and drawings for compliance prior to construction.
  • Designing scope for ground investigations based on clients intended purpose and specification and resolving technical anomalies.
  • Developing cost effective technically sound alternatives.
  • Planning work programmes with the team.
  • Collating data in relevant formats.
  • Providing monthly valuations.
  • Providing advice to others and working collaboratively with client designers.
  • Training, mentoring and developing others.
  • Drafting detailed technical reports and maintaining detailed diary.

Required:

  • Relevant technical degree e.g. civil engineering, engineering geology or other related discipline.
  • A higher degree in geotechnical engineering, or similar, is desirable.
  • CSCS card (SSSTS or SMSTS or equivalent desirable)

Experience:

  • Knowledge of a varied range of geotechnical assessment and design such as earthworks and remediation, earth retaining structures, slope stability assessment, ground improvement/treatment works, or shallow and deep foundation design.
  • Geological mapping to derive and develop ground models, preferably with an understanding of the engineering relevance.
  • Report writing including presenting complex technical information in a concise and accurate manner.
  • Data handling, including experience in the use of GIS is desirable.
  • Post-graduation experience in the field of geotechnical engineering or engineering geology is desirable.

Skills / Attributes:

  • Communicate effectively, listen and engage, including communicating technical information effectively.
  • Ability to innovate and develop in your technical area and to continually seek to improve performance in all aspects of your role.
  • Flexibility to work across the UK for specific projects or longer-term assignments.
  • A full UK driving licence is required.
