The long-awaited transformation of Wicklow Train Station into a high-tech transport hub has cleared its final planning hurdle, with construction on the landmark active travel bridge officially scheduled to begin in Q4 of this year.

The project will see a 5.5-metre-wide pedestrian and cycle bridge span the Dublin-Rosslare line. The bridge is designed to connect the Port Access Road in Wicklow town directly to the station platforms, effectively bypassing town centre congestion.

The National Transport Authority (NTA) has bolstered the project with a €500,000 allocation for 2026 to move into the final construction phase.
