Commercial construction inflation halved
Inflation for commercial construction was 1.5% for the first half of 2024, the same rate as the previous six months. This means that the annual median rate is more than half of than the previous 12 months (6.2%). The SCSI welcomes the development that the rate of inflation had stayed static for two consecutive six-month periods.
Skills for methods of modern construction report welcomed
A report from the Expert Group on Future Skills Needs on the Skills for Modern Method of Construction has been welcomed by Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Peter Burke TD, and Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Patrick O’Donovan TD. It highlights the importance of the construction sector to Ireland’s economy and has twenty-eight recommendations, the EGFSN will work with the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science as they lead on the development of an Action Plan which will take the report’s recommendations and detail how they can be delivered.
Dornan Engineering acquired by US firm
Turner Construction Company is set to acquire Cork based Dornan Engineering Group as apart of its plans to expand across Europe. Dornan is largely focused on large-scale projects for blue-chip companies predominantly in the advanced technology sector, including data centres and biopharma facilities. Turner Construction will acquire 100% of Dornan Engineering. Executive vice-president of Turner Mike Kuntz said they have identified €18.45bn of advanced technology project opportunities in Europe.
