Build 2024
The Minister for Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform, Paschal Donohoe has recently published the Build 2024 – Construction Sector Performance and Capacity. In the report there several positive trends highlighted such as: a 21% increase in planning permissions for housing units, a 108% increase for homes upgraded to a BER rating of B2 or above and 3% (construction) & 2% (construction-related) increase in apprentice registrations.
Morrison’s Island Revamp to begin Construction
Construction is set to begin on key flood defenses in Cork City. From Parliament Bridge to Parnell Bridge the works will deliver new plazas, footpaths, viewing platforms and river access points. The project has been designed to remove an estimated 80% of the tidal flood threat, protecting 400 homes and businesses. Costs for this project are expected to be at least €20m.
LDA Agrees to build 5,000 New Homes
The Land Development Agency has entered into an agreement with 15 construction companies to deliver 5,000 new homes over the coming years. The panel includes some of Ireland’s largest residential developers. The new framework panel will ease financing issues by allowing phased payments to house builders for affordable homes. This is apart of the LDA’s Project Tosaigh programme second phase, which has already agreed to deliver 2,800 affordable homes. In total the agency wants to deliver 8,000 homes by 2028.
