Construction Begins on the Beamish and Crawford
Quarter
Cork City Council has announced that infrastructure and public realm works have begun on the Beamish and Crawford Quarter. This project is funded by the Development of Housing, Planning & Local Government under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund, with support from the National Transport Authority and Cork City Council. The works will see a complete redevelopment of Bishop Lucey Park with the construction of two new pedestrian/cycle bridges, being built by Jons Civil Engineering. Construction is expected to last until the end of 2025.
Labour Court to Examine Conditions in Construction Sector
Following the receipt of a request under Section 14 of the Industrial Relations Act, the Labour Court will conduct an examination of the terms and conditions applying to workers in the construction sector. Members of the public have until June 18th to make a written submission after this the Labour Court said it may hold hearings of interested parties who wish to appear before the court. This could result in the court make recommendations by the minister of a Sectoral Employment Order (SEO) which could provide improved legally enforceable minimum terms and conditions of employment in the sector.
