Record 18,000 homes started Construction in April

Monthly data from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage shows the number of Commencement Notices with 18,182 homes in April. This is a 605% increase on the same period of 2023. 47% of the commencements are scheme dwellings, 45% are apartments and 8% are one-off units. Local authorities in Dublin made up 33% of the new commencements, the most were in Dublin City with 2,656. All local authorities have seen more than a 100% increase in commencements from April 2023 to April 2024 except for Monaghan (85%) with some growing by more than 10 times.

First 3D Printed Social Housing Scheme Unveiled in Louth

The first social housing scheme printed using 3D technology was unveiled in Co. Louth, the first of this type in the UK and Ireland. This project is set to use 3D construction printing technology to build three three-bedroom terraced houses, with a floor area of 110m2. The Grange Close pilot project is a collaboration between Louth County Council, Louth & Meath Education & Training Board, Irish-owned Harcourt Technologies and Roadstone. This method of construction creates a housing structure three times faster than using traditional methods.

Callaghan Electrical EI Built to Innovate Initiative

Callaghan Electrical has announced that it has become the first construction subcontractor to secure funding under the Enterprise Ireland’ Built to Innovate’ Initiative. Built to Innovate initiative aims to achieve faster, higher quality housing construction by providing funding support to productivity, training and digitization. It is part of the Housing for All Programme.
