February Record Housing Starts

In February the number of residential construction starts reached a record of 3,699, according to the Department of Housing. This is an 87% increase on the units which began construction in February 2023. Of these new units 60% are scheme dwellings, 29% are apartments and 11% are for one off units. Housing commencements are now above the official annual Government housing target of 33,000 by 2,750 starts.

Shannon Airport Awards Shortlist

Two commercial properties in the Business Part at the Shannon Airport Campus have been shortlisted for two national awards. Newly completed Block R and Block S have been nominated for awards in the Irish Construction Excellence Awards and the Building & Architect of the Year Awards.  Block R has been shortlisted in the Industrial Excellence category in the Irish Construction Excellence Awards, for its sustainable construction through the LEED and NZEB frameworks. Block R has also been nominated in the Building & Architect of the Year Awards for ‘Commercial Building of the Year. Block S has also been shortlisted for ‘Commercial Building of the Year’ in the Building & Architect of the Year awards.

Glenamuck District Roads Scheme

Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council have announced the construction of the Glenamuck District Roads Scheme will commence in Q2 2024. BAM Civil Ltd have been appointed as contractor by DLR and are expected to take two years to complete the works. The GDRS is central to the delivery of the Kiltiernan-Glenamuck Local Area Plan, the completion of the scheme will enable the delivery of housing and other improvements in the area.
