Annual Building & Construction Volume
New figures from the CSO have revealed that construction and building volumes fell by 6.3% in 2023. Volume in the Non-Residential Building sector fell by 11% at the end of year, there was a 5% drop in the Residential Building Sector. The only sector to show an annual increase was Civil Engineering which rose by 9.4%.
Galway’s First Ever Cost Rental Homes
A major residential development in Galway City is officially under construction by developer Tom Coyle and OCC Construction. The is Galway’s first ever cost rental homes, a project which is expected to take 18 months. There will be a total of 102 units constructed in a mix of apartments, duplex and semi-detached houses BER A rated, together with car park spaces, on a four-acre site. 28 units of which will be cost rental homes.
Donegal to Dublin Road
Works to upgrade the A5 road to Derry and Donegal will commence before the end of the year according to Northern Ireland’s Infrastructure Minister. There have been calls for improvements on the A5 to become a dual carriageway as it’s one of the most dangerous roads on the island of Ireland. The scheme was first approved in 2007 but has been delayed since due to legal proceedings and faced funding uncertainty. Taoiseach Leo Varadkar announced funding of €600 million for the A5 upgrade.
Eircom Building Mayo
Corduff Travel is planning a development of the former Eircom depot in Castlebar. This will create over 100 jobs in the area and last for over 2 years. The building will be redeveloped into a HQ building with office space, there are also plans to a construct a HGV garage on the site.
