The coming months will determine whether the Government’s newly reconstituted planning regime is fit for purpose when it comes to getting critical infrastructure built, according to an infrastructure and planning expert
Legislative changes to the planning system have made it potentially as good as the Spanish system, on paper at least, but success will only come if projects receive the political backing they need, according to Stephen Barry, Planning and Environmental Partner at legal firm Addleshaw Goddard Ireland.
“There is political bravery needed and this has to be above local politics,” he said.
